My husband and I are Jewish and I am considering divorce. Would I have any financial claims against him after divorce ?
By: דיאנה שאלתיאל•Published on: 09 June, 2022You would have no right to maintenance from him once you divorce. Under Jewish law he is obliged to support you as long as you are married even if you are separated if there is a legally justifiable reason for this. Sometimes a man agrees to support his wife financially after divorce – in his divorce agreement – but he is under no obligation to do so.
Regarding property rights and divorce see Property Rights & Agreements sections. Sometimes a wife is unaware that she is entitled to some of her ex-husband’s pension rights/social benefits.
